On Sunday 8th June 2014, 50 Taroona residents enjoyed a "Finding Fabulous Fungi" walkabout organised by TEN and led by Tasmania's fungi experts and local residents Genevieve Gates and David Ratkowsky. Participants discovered ascomycetes, basidiomycetes, bleeding mycenas, brown rotters, fairy rings, puff balls, coral and jelly fungus, and lots of LBMs (little brown mushrooms)! Fungi occur in symbiotic relationships with trees, act as invertebrate supermarkets, and even have yielded important anti-cancer drugs.
