Recently, the school initiated a Partnership Agreement with us to acknowledge our involvement in helping to care for its natural areas.
It is an encouraging agreement, which recognises and appreciates our work in the past, and provides some parameters for the future.
For many years, TEN have been assisting the school to manage its coastal foreshore, gully and bushland by removing invasive weeds, planting natives and encouraging natural regeneration to restore biodiversity.
The Education Department owns the land to High Water Mark from Melinga Place boatsheds extending north to the cliff-top properties of Northern Flinders Esplanade. It also owns the gully and bushland north to Karingal Court. This is a vast area of land for the Taroona High School to care for.
TEN is currently actively involved with several classes (Exploring the Oceans and Exploring the Coastlines) to improve the biodiversity of the foreshore, by extending the coastal plantings. Students have been collecting seeds and cuttings, propagating, planting and caring for seedlings.
The Partnership Agreement also acknowledges the Aboriginal midden upon which the school is situated. Part of the role of TEN is to share our knowledge of the midden site and its significance, and encourage students to respect and care for the site.
TEN looks forward to an ongoing positive partnership with the High School.
